Welcome to an exciting year in Room 108! My name is Ms. Self and I will be your child’s 2nd grade teacher for the 2019-2020 school year.
I graduated from Michigan State University in May 2015 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and teaching specializations in Mathematics, Spanish, and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. I am so excited to be back with the Shoesmith family for my fourth year of teaching!
I am originally from Lake Zurich, a Northwest suburb of Chicago. I have always loved Chicago and am so fortunate to be living in this amazing city fulfilling my lifelong dream of being a teacher. I am very passionate about teaching and love helping children reach their goals. During the summer of 2015, I had the amazing opportunity to teach English at a summer camp outside of Madrid, Spain. During this experience, I learned how to interact and connect with children from a different culture and background than me, which helped me grow into the teacher I am today. Outside of school, I love traveling and spending time with my family and friends. I am a very active person and love running and playing volleyball.
I look forward to getting to know all of you and working together to help your child grow throughout the year. We have a great year ahead of us filled with projects, interesting subject matter, field trips, and much more! If you ever have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. Here you will find useful information about what your child is doing in our class throughout the year. I look forward to the fantastic year of learning and fun that lies ahead!
